.Hola,
04/04/11 We are still in sunny Roatan, The weather is getting hotter by the day and more humid which at times can be oppressive. The winter peak is over and the island pace has slowed down. The Hammerhead reappeared again, this time according to several other dive shops it followed the group I was leading along the reef 50ft behind us, I didn't see it though, Spotted Rays seem to be the order of the day, Turtles still grace us most days and night dives are pretty cool,
Our course is now thankfully over after weeks of exams theory (Physic's was the hardest), practical dive skills, stamina, Underwater mapping, finishing with the dreaded STRESS TEST in which we had to share one mouth piece to breath, one mask and exchange full equipment, ( have you seen the difference in our sizes) swim 50m whilst still sharing breathing from the same mouth piece and exchange all our kit back, whilst two instructors try to freak us out, they attach floats to the equipment so it floats off, detach and disable and steal parts of your gear, free flow jets of air in your face so you see even less and are a general pain in the proverbial, At one stage I had a lobster on my head (don't ask???) After a hour and the sorest of eyes it was over, it took 24hrs to get the redness from them and look near human again.
Starting tomorrow the daily rituals change, We are starting temp work at our dive shop (being paid), We both are really enjoying the teaching aspect, it's a buzz when you see the pleasure on peoples faces when they see the colourful reef and the marine life for the first, Oonagh even taught a 10 year old and he didn't stop pointing for the whole dive, We all taught 17 sixteen year old Minnesota school girls to dive ( a week of moody teenagers all good fun though).
Easter week our dive shop is organising a sponsored 3 legged fancy dress bar race for schooling of children from less fortunate families, any donations are welcome, We are competing.
Adios the Chaffer's.
