Last group game today v Blizzard Dynamite from Canada. In front of a huge crowd and live tv cameras on the show pitch they played some great passing football to the enjoyment of the crowd who were 5 deep around the pitch.
After about 15 minutes of passing around the opposition we scored after good work from Zoe Ness and Beth Hepple who filtered the ball through to Lauren Briggs who fired home from 20 yards earning herself a new pair of football boots from her mam and dad. Even though we were playing well we couldn't add to our tally before HT.
HT Blizzard Dynamite 0:1 Cestria
The second half went much the same way with lots of nice approach play but not the goals it deserved. We hit the bar and the post twice resulting in oohs and aahs from the crowd. The inevitable second goal came after Abi Housecroft played Zoe Ness in who fired into the corner. The third goal was magnificent after great interplay between Zoe Ness and Beth Hepple releasing Abi Housecroft who finished expertly under the impressive Canadian goalkeeper. The defence were well marshalled by Lauren Jordinson restricting the spirited Canadians to pot shots from outside the area.
Tomorrow is HUGE! The knockout phase starts at 10:50am Swedish time v IF Brommapojkarn (try saying that after a drink) on the grass at Mossen IP. If we win we'll set up a repeat of last years final v our old friends Vartans IK with the winners playing again at 20:10. So it could be a Thursday like last year if we're successful. I will blog after each game we play, Hopefully.
