Ceri's Big Adventure!
Hi guys!!!
We made it to the top!!! WE are in Cairns!!!
Fraser Island was brilliant, we had a group of 10, us 3 another English guy from up North called Adam, 4 German guys and a french couple. We had our induction the night before then got up early doors to pack our trucks with food, clothes, camping stuff and lots of alcohol, and we had to go through everything we needed to know. There were 3 groups of ten that headed out so we stuck together most of the time except for the 1st night when we lost the other 2 groups and had to camp behind the sanddunes on our own. You are only allowed to drive up the east coast of the island and do most of the driving on the beach, however you are not allowed to drive at hightide coz you MUST NOT drive the trucks through the salt water the minimum fine is $1000. So our drivers (this did not include me I decided against driving thankgod) they decided to drive through the water not just once but everytime we went on the beach. This stressed us out big time!! The Germens did most driving and could all speak really good English, however they could not understand "Do not drive through the salt water" and "SLOW DOWN" apart from this the trip was brilliant Lake Mc Kenzie was beautiful, white sands and bright blue water the camera just cant capture it. We swam in here and the water is soo pure you can drink it!!
There were lots of Dingos running around after our food, we were not allowed to walk on our own coz they are dangerous, a few years ago one stole a 9 year old! The second night we all stayed at an Aborigonal camp, the owners were really nice, they set up a camp fire for us and later did a traditional dance and chant. We went down on to the beach at dark and saw the stars. It was really amazing I have never seen so many in all my life, you could see the milky way and orians belt. It was brilliant!! THe weather was perfect too no sign of the 2nd cyclone!!
