Hola flia y amigos,
1Aprender a busear
Solo puedo decir cosas buenas!!!
Estaba muy triste cuandome fui : (
Hey dudes & dudettes,
Well things didn't start off too well in Singapore, when we got to the border we all got off the coach & something told me to take everything with me, so I did except my hoodie (which was hideous anyway) & a book. Wayne the aussie guy left a few things behind against my advice!!
As backpackers & foreigners we have to queue for ages to get stamped, get sniffed by dogs, we have to go through x ray machines because naturally all backpackers must be drug smugglers. When we finally made it onto Singaporean land our coach or the local passengers were nowhere to be seen!! So there we were at 6am, with all our gear, no local money (actually I only had thai money) with no clue where we were & no transport! Great predicament!!
Another driver took pity on us & took us into the city @ a price of course, I gave him all my thai money which was probably about 1pound 50 & Wayne gave him all his Malaysian money & he drove us into the city. As it happens we weren't really that far. I seperated from Wayne at this point as he headed to the airport & I headed to my hostel to meet Helen as we had planned in Thai.
Me & H spent all day exploring the city, went to Little India-where there are brilliant designer fakes at bargain prices & really well made! Checked out the markets, got a massage, our last massage for a long time as those are luxuries we can no way afford in oz & nz! Got completely soaked as there was torrential rain & headed for the night safari. People rave about this so much but I thought it was pretty crap, I thought it was just a glorified zoo.
The next day I took her to my fave spot Orchard Road to look at everything we couldn't afford. Singapore is completely western & Orchard Road is like the posh shopping street where its all designer labels & shops, I bought some jeans from Topshop because I sent the only pair of jeans I had home in Vietnam because it was too hot to wear them, but I remembered that last time I was in oz I wore jeans at night quite a lot. Also I got my hair cut because my Pocahontas look just wouldn't cut it in Australia. I know it may sound odd but it was sooo nice to be in a high street. Asia has no shops, like even food shops. In Laos & Cambodia it was impossible to buy food unless it was bloody Pringles! So I got my shopping fix here!
The prices in Singapore were such a shock though,I guess Singapore is really different compared to its neighbouring countries. Its completely western & developed but I still love it.. Its compact, easy to get around & its completely safe plus the tube is dead easy & takes you everywhere. And everyone speaks English!! Its amazing how once you've visited somewhere before you don't forget it because certain places were so familiar & I was here in 2002!!!
I've given myself certain goals to achieve everywhere I go and my Asia ones were
1.Scuba dive
2.Trek some mountains in Thai
3.Full moon party
4.Cross the road in Vietnam without getting killed
5.Ride an elephant
6.eat some insects
7.Tube in the river in Laos
Im happy to say that I did all these things except the insects because i wasn't really feeling it on the day, it was in Laos, I was starving & knackered, were staying in a total dive & crickets was just noy going to cut it that night. The only time I was up for it (drunk of course) was in Bangkok & obviously we couldn't find any!!
I was dead sad though because my Asian adventure had come to an end. Everyone back home warned me of the dangers & all the usual crap but oh my god I loved every minute!!! S.E Asia is awesome, the people, their culture, the views, scenery its all so far removed to what we know but its just beautiful!!
I deffo want to come back as 2 months is not enough, I especially want to go back to Vietnam because its such an amazing place, maybe bring my dad with me next time & I missed out Hanoi but hey these are all excuses to come back!!!
So yeah it was brilliant, im so glad that I did it with Jules as we proper roughed it out, took local transport & did it all ourselves (with the help of the Rough Guide mind you) & because of that we got a better feel for it & most importantly we had such a laugh(ok not always) along the way!!! I miss her & Asia sooooooooooooooo much & Im sad that time is flying by I want this year that I'm away to last forever!!!
Still miss you guys back home loads though xxxx
