Well well the team are in full flow now and feeling well at home in the beautiful land of New Zealand. After getting our new beast van the Dragon Wagon (photos to come) we have visited.........
Lake Takepo - Simply stunning with the most amazing blue water that gets its colour from the nearby Glacie. After spending the night next to the canal (also filled with the glacier water) we awoke to the noise of splashing Rainbow Trout that are huge and hungry salmon in the farm we were opposite so had to go and pay the $3 and feed these frenzied fishes ! There's hundreds if not thousands of them and they are very keen to munch all the lovely pellets we gave them./
Lake Pukaki - not quite as nice as the above but still with the most amazing water. Great driving road and views of the mountains
Mount Cook ! - Awesome huge snow capped mountain (highest in South Island) surrounded by huge glaciers in the clean crisp air we only managed a small walk but this gave a good vantage point and was worth the steeeep climb. After thios we needed to snooze !
Dunedin - The Edinburgh of the South Island we visted their version of a castle Larnach (more like a nice large house really) but it was an interesting and very beautiful building steeped in history (all 150 years of it) From here we visited Sandlfy bay a beach that is off the beaten track but well worth a visit as its home to the rarest Yellow eyed Penguins and also Sea lions were on the shore when we went taking a nap ! After falling down then climbing the biggest baddest Sand dune here, we drove onto Portobello, not much like the road in London more like a country village in England so we stopped in the local and had a few local brews & games of pool. Nice.
We drove onto a nearby roadside stop off to polish off the bottle we took home from the pub and had a good old sing song in the back of the wagon with the Disco Ball turning & stereo rocking ! Dunno how the Neighbours took this (hundreds of sheep) but there were no complaints
Onto the beatifull Allans Beach next day where a huge Bull Sealion came ashore to sun himself with us (photos to follow) Gorgeous here only thing is the sand is so fine that it covers you Sand Blizzard style !
These sights are all part of the Ottago Peninsular just East of Dunedin itself
Onwards to Invercargill !..............Speak soon & hope all are well. XXX
