Right well after the accident in Fraser Island, I now had my leg in cast and was on a bus to Noosa, where the closet hospital was situated, we made it there in the early afternoon and Jill drew the short straw and headed off the the hospital with me. I was a little surprised when we arrived, A and E was deserted, apart from one nurse who kept insisting she was 'run off her feet today' (There was nobody there, we were a little confused) after also being informed that an x-ray was 'very expensive' we were ushered off to a doctor at the end of the hall, who took one look at my ankle and said that an x-ray should be done straight away. Now have the x-ray of my broken ankle, pretty cool...
We were meant to be going on a kayaking and camping trip, but all decided we would rather hit the zoo instead, I was a little disappointed, but didn't make much sense me kayaking with plastic bags over my leg for a good few days, it need no encouragement in being shrivelled. The first day the girls and I spent pampering ourselves and shopping and having a lovely dinner out. I had lamb Shank best food i had eaten in a while, the boys went fishing, didn't catch anything worth recording.
The next day we were up early and headed off to the zoo, was just a short ride away. Pretty good day to go as it was Roberts 5th birthday, Steve Irwin's son, and there was a big party planned. I had to go in a wheel chair for the day as the zoo was so big, which was good for getting priority seating but sucked in every other way! We saw some huge crocodiles, snakes, other weird Australian animals and stroked koalas and Kangaroos. We went to the Crocosium and saw Terri, Bindi and Robert, all celebrate his birthday with cameras etc... By the time we got back to Noosa we were all exhausted, early night.
The next day we had just about recovered and headed off to the beach, I am currently working on a different sort of tan line, going to be interesting when i get the cast off! It also appears that the only people in Noosa who want to talk to me are either weirdo's or old men, I have yet to get as much sympathy and I would like from the attractive men in Australia! We thought that a night out was called for the night, and got ourselves ready for the local bar/club. Not with high expectations I must add, the locals were lovely but so far do not make much of an effort when it comes to evening attire. However we made it down and like we have anticipated it was an interesting venue. The only thing for it to drink on through and make the most of it. Thankfully it did get busy, I had a number of boys fighting over me for my attention (I was seated on a table, busting the best moves I could manage, dancing with crutches is surprisingly hard and also looks ridiculous, but also could not run away from anyone) Well night was a lot of fun! Especially when hey handed out sheets for those who had not some in a toga!
Feeling worse for wears the next day we packed up and headed on the Brisbane. I was pretty excited I love cities and this was the first one I had been to in nearly a month. we arrived found our place and then went for a look around. We were in the heart of Brisbane, which did work in my favour, I did some more shopping (didn't spend much mum) and had some coffees and just hung out. I have got good at doing this. We went to a bar that night and caught up with some of Laura and Danny's friends, got soaked on the way however and the storms were still pretty big in Brisbane. Jill and I in the closest thing we could get to waterproofs (ponchos) looked pretty stupid, but for the mist part were dry! An excellent first night out in the city.
After having a stressful day with the place we were staying, I contacted some family friends and Jill and I were invited to go for a bbq at their house that evening. Before we left I managed to get the energy together to go over the river to the South Bank and we had a coffee and looked around the craft market, just before it started to rain. We were both pretty excited about the evening and especially that we were going to eat some lovely food and drink some wine! It was a really lovely evening, which ended up with us sitting in the gazebo by the pool having a civilised conversation.
I could have stayed a while in Brisbane, but with our deadline of Sydney looming we moved on and hit the Gold Coast in Surfers Paradise. It was a shock to he system, as when we first got there it was overrun with the breed of Australian student called "Skoolies' (or however you spell it, basically a bunch of 18year olds who have finished school. people kept asking if I had hurt my foot thought skoolies, which got a little irritating! Again i worked on my, slightly fading and now very uneven tan on the beach, while the others went surfing. The place definitely grew on us all. We decided we definitely needed to do something with one of the days and thought that sea World was a good bet. It was awesome, we saw sharks, dolphins, turtles, Polar bears (confused me to) penguins, seals and lots of awesome animals. The only annoying thing was I could not go on any rides and I am damaged! So I watched the others having fun, while old men and weirdo's asked what had happened to my leg! That evening we took on the recommendation of Lynn and Clyde from Brisbane and went up the Q1 building to the cocktail bar. Where I enjoyed my favourite cocktail French Martini, it was very good, I had two! You could see the whole of the Gold Cast from the top, it took only 43 seconds to get to the 77th floor, which was quite cool! That night we ended up going out to see a live band, and I busted some moves without my crutches. (Alex thought this was a bad idea but I managed) Jill thought it would be a good idea to get some Sambuca shots and that's pretty much what I remember of the night! Now we are in Byron Bay and I love it, its weird and fun! Going to do a massage course, what some would say its a little different!
