Arrived saturday night 20.30 Russian time and met our transfer at the airport having already met a guy called Lewis at passport control who happened to be staying in the same hostel and on the same trip as us. Taxi driver told us a little about St.Petersburg and warned us that the weather would only get colder during our trip and it was already -21c. Checked into our basic but clean room and spent sunday exploring the city despite blizzard like conditions. Two more of our group arrived on sunday night who we met and spent monday with exploring some more visiting st.issacs cathedral which we climbed to view the whole city from...was a good view but very cold!!...met our honcho that evening and went out for a traditional russian dinner. Tuesday we visited the Hermatige which was beautiful and full of history. That afternoon we walked to a fortress on an island and on the way walked onto the frozen river which was a little weird but perfectly safe! Went to a traditional russian bar last night with live music and then a DJ. Tried the vodka and managed to survive it despite feeling a little worse for wear this morning. Have got some interesting pictures of us and our russian friends we made on the dancefloor. All in all an amazing night and an experience we won't forget. Today have just been wandering around the city to see the last few sights before we leave tonight on the midnight train to Moscow where we will arrive early tomorrow morning.
