This morning Catherine and the others went on a flight over the Nazca lines but i didn´t want to go so i stayed at the hotel and had a lie in. We then all went out to the Nazca desert cemetry where we were given a guided tour of the tombs and told all about the ceremonies and types of burials and tombs that were there. Unfortunately due to grave robbers finding the tombs firts most of the valuable jewels and other artifacts were missing. However it was really interesting to see what was there although rather freaky to see some of the mummies that were still so well intact even including their hair and some skin!! We then all went back to the city and had lunch and then chilled out at the hotel by the pool and waited until we had to get our night bus to Arequipa.
We arrived early the next morning and after checking in and having a sleep, as we didn´t get much on the nightbus due to lack of space/people snoring, we went on a city walk with Carolina and the city seemed really pretty. Afterwards, me, catherine and some others of the group decided to go to the Juanita museum which is a museum all about a frozen body of a young girl that was found up in the mountains. She was believed to have been a sacrafice to the gods from the Incas, as the Incas believed that the mountains were gods and whenever the weather was really bad or a volcano erupted they believed that to appeise the gods they had to offer a sacrafice and the ultimate sacrafice was that of a young child. It was really interesting to see how well the things found with her had survived, however, the frozen body of Juanita itself was really quite freaky looking! We then all went for some lunch and then went back to the hotel and chilled out before dinner. I didn´t end up going for dinner though as i wasnt very well that night.
The next morning we left early on a bus to go to Colca Canyon where on our way we saw Vicunas, Alpacas and Llamas. We also stopped and tried some coca tea and got the chance to try chewing on some coca leaves as this is supposed to help with altitude sickness. However, it was quite horrible and tasted like you were chewing on a tea bag. We also stopped at a viewpoint to get some photos and stopped to have a buffet lunch and ended up having our photos taken with some young llamas which were very quite!! We finally arrived in Colca at about 3pm and after a short nap we went out for a hike for about an hour. The landscape around us was amazing. After our hike we all got our swim stuff on and were taken to the local hot springs which was amazing as they were soo warm and it was so cold outside!! After relaxing and soaking ourselves in the hotsprings we got the bus back to the hotel which the driver stopped on our way and turned all of its lights off so we could get off the bus and in the pitch black see the amazing clear night sky. It was amazing, there were so many stars and we could see the milkyway and we could even see a planet. Once we were back at the hotel we had diner and then took Fin (one of the guys on the trip) his birthday cake to his room as he wasn´t very well so we cheered him up by singing to him and giving him his amazing chocolate cake!
