We've reached Nha Trang after an overnight bus journey from Hoi An. We really enjoyed ourselves there and would recommend Hoi An as it's a really laid back place set on a river (that floods every night due to the tide!) with an old town full of French colonial style buildings. The food is great there and it's nice to sample local cuisine after being in Laos where they put 5 Lao dishes on the menu surrounded by burgers, pizzas, pasta and roast dinners! Believe it or not the prospect of a Sunday roast isn't very tempting, although a Yorkshire pud dipped in a bit of a gravy would go down a treat! Anyway, Hoi An! The weather picked up after a few days of rain in Vinh and Danang. We went to Cua Dai beach nearby a couple of times, spent a day exploring old town and the rest of the time chilling out with a Larue beer, big bowls of Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup), Cau Lau and fried wontons (local specialities).
On our last day we decided to do a bit of sightseeing and booked a trip to see the My Son ruins - a set of Champa ruined temples dating back to the 4th century. After an hour and a half journey there we explored the site in 15 minutes and were pretty unimpressed. The ruins themselves were ok, although nothing compared to the ones we saw in Thailand, but we expected a little bit more. Our mood was summed up by my comment upon leaving the ruins - "My Son? My Arse!"
The overnight sleeper bus came for us last night and it was a decent journey at just over 12 hours. The seats fully reclined so we got a good few hours shut eye, then a few more when we arrived at Nha Trang because it's raining! It's not just a bit of rain either, as Burnley folk would say "it's proper chucking it down". We arrived at 6:30am and it was torrential rain, it's now 3:45pm and it's still raining. A few side streets are flooded but the main streets are fine. The problem is we're at a beach resort, with a hotel that has a beach view and all we can see is torrential rain! Hopefully it will pick up and we can get back to sunning ourselves again.
I can't end this blog without mentioning something about Burnley!!! A fantastic result and I've just managed to see the highlights now. It's a shame most of the press are paying more attention to Didier Dogdirt's and the Burnley 'fans' coin throwing antics, we have just beaten Chelsea at home after all! A fitting word to end on has to be.....
BEEEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSSSSSST!!!!!!!
