Wednesday 11 July, on a recommendation from a friend we have changed hotels and moved up the hill to the Alhambra for our last night in Granada. The hotel is the Alhambra Palace and is very beautiful inside with similar decorations in the walls to that which you would find in the Alhambra itself. After arriving this morning we walked back to the city centre and then into an area called the Albaycin which is one of the oldest arab areas in the city. There was a considerable climb involved and in temperatures well into the 30's it was hot work but the view from San Nicholas church viewpoint back towards the Alhambra was magnificent and you could capture the Alhambra in one photo which stands on top of the next hill across a deep valley.
We have been intrigued by the wiring on the buildings here in Spain, obviously put in as a new addition or after-thought and so the cables dangle along the front of houses, across street corners and across roofs. I will include a photo to show you - a health and safety issue perhaps? Certainly no 'gold-plating' of the electricity grid going on here.
This afternoon I visited the Royal Chapel (Capilla Real) and the Museum attached to the Cathedral. In it are the tombs of Isabella and Ferdinand (who looked after Christopher Columbus so nicely while alive), as well as other Kings and Queens of Spain. It is a very ornate chapel but no photo's allowed inside.
Tonight, we had a drink on the balcony at the hotel, looking out over the eastern part of the city which shows some of the public housing initiatives that have taken place in Granada over the years.
Afterwards, we wandered 200 metres up the hill to the Alhambra for the evening viewing under spotlights. Night photography on our camera can be a little unpredictable. We hope you enjoy the photos.
