Day 21 - Wednesday 18 July - Barcelona 30C.
Today we set off for the Parc de la Ciutadella just east of where we are staying and found fabulous fountains, the Barcelona Zoo and the Catalunyan Parliament Buildings alongside the Park. There were lots of school groups, young couples and families enjoying the shady areas of the park. The park is 72 hectares in size with fountains, and ponds, statues and indoor gardens with gravel paths weaving throughout the park. We returned via the Markets we discovered yesterday (Mercat de Santa Caterina) and shopped for lunch.
I had wanted to visit the Picasso Museum this afternoon but the queue when I arrived was so long that have postponed it until another day.
Instead I visited the Barcelona Cathedral which is not as impressive as Gaudi's, but a very lovely Cathedral just the same. There was a choir singing as I entered and I soon discovered that they were rehearsing for a concert in the Cathedral within the next ½ hour so I sat and waited for the concert to begin.
It was the Pacific Boys Choir from San Francisco and some 45 boys ranging in ages from about 10 – 17 took part. It was a treat to hear the church filled with the choir’s voices.
Around 5pm we set off to see Gaudi’s buildings in the area of Eixample just north of where we are in El Gotic. This is also where all the exclusive shops are so we window shopped, and snapped and discussed how nice the area was as we strolled for a few hours in the cool of the evening , getting home around 9.30 p.m. for dinner.
