After leaving Airlie Beach I headed to Townsville to get the ferry to a beautiful island called Magnetic Island, Maggie Island to the locals. It was absolutely picturesque. I have to admit I really didn't do a lot, what with the money situation I was happy to just sunbake by the pool at the resort all day and drink and dance on the beach in the evenings.
The resort we were staying in was really cool, we stayed in little wooden huts practically on the beach. It was a nice few chilled out days, one evening we had a bbq and a few beers on the beach, another we cooked dinner together and danced on the wooden benches in the bar. It was very relaxed.
Then I took the boat and headed back to the mainland and up to a place called Mission Beach near Tully. I didn't actually plan to stop there as all it really is is a place to skydive 14,000ft onto the beach but as my parents had put money into one of the girls bank accounts for me and it hadn't yet cleared I had to follow her there for two days.
Again I just sunbathed on the beach or layed by the pool, one morning I felt particularlly adventurous and went for a Rainforest trek in search of a Cassorwary but didn't see one. It was one of the girls who was on my bus' birthday on the last evening so we went out for a $10 meal (that's splashing out for us!) and a few free games of pool. Other than that it was again a chilled out uneventful place. Although one evening I went to visit friends at another hostel and a lady from an animal rescue place was there with baby animals like possums and wallabees. I held a baby Wallaby and completely fell in love with him. He was two days old and completely bald, they'd made him a little pouch and you couldn't touch them in case you gave them something but you had to hold them close to your chest as they need body heat and I could feel its little heartbeat and it opened it's little eyes and it was the sweetest thing in the world. If I could have stolen it I would have, I loved him. Strangely it made me really broody, despite the fact it's a marsupial.
