From Kroombit Cattle Ranch I headed to Airlie Beach which is the sleepy little town that you sail the Whitsundays from. The Whitsundays are a group of 72 beautiful islands that Captain Cook discovered in 1770, he actually discovered them on a Monday but didn't realise that because of the time difference so named them the Whitsundays - it has more of a ring to it than Whitmondays anyway.
A group of 25 of us boarded the British Defender, an ex racing boat now a sailing tourist boat. We spent three days and two nights sailing around the islands, snorkelling the Great Barrier Reef and watching the incredible stars. There was a mixture of people on our boat, some liked to drink tea and play cards, others of us liked to dance on deck and play drinking games.
We watched sunsets and sunrises, slept on deck under the stars, hoisted the sails, sunbathed on deck, exfoliated ourselves with the pure sand on Whitehaven beach, licked ants bums (there's a certain type of ant with a green bum that tastes really citrusy and tangy when you lick it, judge me if you want I've already eaten caterpillars!) dived and swam off the boat and generally had an amazing time. The view from the viewpoint overlooking Whitehaven beach looks like it's from a brochure, I will never forget how incredible it looked.
