Day 5 ctd - And so we made it safely to Delhi airport with plenty of time on our hands. Luckily according to the departure board our plane left perfectly on time (even though we were yet to be called to board!) After our initial fears of boarding a very fragile looking plane, a great on board curry and the steward giving me (Catherine) extra chocolate fudge cake made the short flight fly by! Soon we were driving past peacocks and camels to get to Hotel Bani Park Palace (a little less grand than the name implies!)
Days 6 + 7 - After having over 6 staff make us tea and toast we set out to visit the Jaipur Albert Hall (Central Museum) which was built especically for the monarch's visit. A walk down the motorway led us to the quirky Museum of Indology containing glass beds, old manuscripts, drawings and many other random items. Walking up through the bazaars and the pink New Gate we found a tiny rooftop restaurant called Ganesh which gave us a great lunchtime curry. We also explored Jaipur railway station, bumping into my friend Justin - which was a lovely suprise. At night we went on the Pink City by Night Tour viewing the cinema hall, Albert Hall, Jaipur cricket ground (hope you're pleased Dad, I even taught Olivia the rules!), the Hawa Mahal and the Raj Palace ($40,000 a night hotel) which were all lit up beautifully. We had the compulsory shop stops where we both tried on some pretty Indian clothing. After a winding drive and a 1km walk the 10 of us (including a nice family from Slough) ate dinner at the deserted Nahargarh Fort overlooking Jaipur, then returned back seeing the Amber Fort.
So our top tip for Jaipur is that the chips here are great - but leave an hour for them to be served! Jaipur's been lovely to wander round, once you get used to a little pink, and we can't wait to see more of it after Agra...
