Saturday came and we actually had an early start to the day, as we were booked on an 8am bus from Santiago to Mendoza. The bus trip takes 6-7 hours, however that is if the border crossing gose smoothly. The border crossing actually took around 3 hours. We arrived in Mendoza around the 5pm mark. The bus trip was cheap (around 13 pounds each) and very comfortable. It was a normal size bus but only enough seats for 40 people instead of the normal 52. The seats reclined and you were given pillows.
We had been looking forward to this bus trip thinking of the views we would hopefully get on the Andes. The trip certainly didnt disappoint with specatcular views the entire way. On the chile side of the Andes, you had brilliant blue skies with dry, arid mountain peaks surrounding you. The road the bus followed to get to the border constantly turned back on itself. You could look down the mountain and see the last 10 turns that you had just gone through. As we crossed into Argentina more greenery started to appear, however so did the rain clouds. Unfortunately the clouds blocked our view of the peak of Aconcagua. This was probably a good thing, as James and I dont need to be more nervous than we already are about the hike. We knew we were close to Mendoza when the vineyards started to appear. Unfortunately the tastings will have to wait till after we get back from the hike. Havent been doing too much in Mendoza other than ejoying our first taste of Argentinian steak which was sensational and going for a jog to scare the body into the upcoming activity. From tomorrow the 19 day trip to go up the mountain starts, however tomorrow is only a meet and greet day. The real hiking starts on wednesday. On tuesday we drive out to the mountain and get ready.
Hope everyone is keeping well, and not working to hard.
See you in three weeks when I can let you all know I made it all the way up to 6959m and back down again.
