Hi once again to everyone,
Well am now in Chile, and have just spent the last two days in Santiago. James and I have been discussing our preparition for our climb which is soon to start. This came about after having a rather big night at a night club in Santiago last night with some of the other people from the hostel. Initially we were having a quiet one and were just about to go to bed when someone asked us if we wanted to go out. Unfortunately the word ´NO´ is rarely uttered by myself or James when it comes to a night out. So we headed out dressed in our shorts and flip flops as our clubbing gear. Thankfully we were let in dressed this way and with no ID. The club ws actually empty and this was at midnight. The spanish seem not to only have bought their language here but also their late night partying as well. The club filled up as the night progressed and the cervesa continued to flow. Before I knew it I was up on a podium in the night club dancing away. Thankfully there were no repeats of the stage diving/falling which occured last time I ventured onto a stage in London. I was actually aware that this stage was a bit over a meter in height so a fall would definetly hurt. Earlier on two locals had falled off the podium and were a little slow to get back up.
Earlier in the day we had acutally visited the major sites in Santiago, with a few museums to visit next time we are in town. Will continue the blog later when at a better internet cafe.
Ok, now in Mendoza at a very good internet cafe.
One very striking feature of Santiago was actually the number of dogs on the street. There were dogs just running around or curled up at the entrance way to shops and banks just chilling out. They appeared to have the run of the city with many of them having dogs collars and name tags. Couldnt really work out if they were pets let out to roam to the streets during the day, or if they were wild. Even saw one dog pretending to be a police dog and following a some guards about on their round. When they stopped the dog just laid down behind them a little way. Not suprisingly there was no food on the streets of the city. Actually the poor pigeons were a little on the scrawny side, and there werent many cats.
One of the highlights of our visit was walking up a small hill to get some views over the city to the mountains in the Andes which surround Santiago. Some of the mountains even had snow on top. The weather in Santiago was sensational also. I now am a little tanned, and the english white skin is starting to turn a little brown.
The day after the clubbing session was a very low key day and didnt achieve much other than buying our bus tickets for the next day and eating. Also decided that no more alcohol is to be consumed between now and the climb, which starts in a few days time. I might actually make it more than three weeks without an alcholic drink. I cant actually remember the last time this happened, definetly hasnt been since arriving in London four years ago. Do I have a problem.
Well thats about all from Santiago.
