Hair A great write up and marvellous pooths. I certainly should visit your blog more often. Keep up the good work, and the inspiration you have provided over the past 4 years.I left Dar in 1972 and haven't visited the country since. I recall an incident in Zanzibar when I visited it during the reign of the late Karume. My dad, Alwaez Nizar Chunara and I were walking back to the boat that would take us to the ship (Kampala or Karanja). As we were walking on the main road, a cyclist coming from the opposite side brought it to an abrupt and complete stop, dismounted it and gave a salute. He had of course seen the Presidential motorcade and had done so to pay his respect to the President. Of course, other than this incident I recall the wonderful smells of spices such as cloves. There was at that time an eerie feeling in the island and we did not enjoy our walk around the town. Shops were empty, and the island felt like a ghost town. I want to go back now to the Zanzibar you have portrayed so well.
