So sadly this is the final update . We have had an amazing time exploring Phuket with Morna and Scott. It's so beautiful here and as the high season has ended it is fairly quiet but the weather has been great. Our first day here Morna drove us around the island and took us for some local food, and impressed us by ordering in Thai. Later in the afternoon Scott took us up in the seaplane over Ko Tapu island or as it's better known, James Bond Island. So named as it was the Isalnd used in The Man With The Golden gun, as the hideaway for Bond bad guy, Scaramanga. We flew low between the limestone karsts before landing to collect a plane load of tourists. We then landed in front of Ko Phi Phi and waited for the pontoon boat to bring us the passengers. The sea there is beautiful. On the way back Scott flew to the south of Phuket and up the west coast. After landing we headed to the beach for a swim and watched the sunset before heading out to the Supper Club for dinner.
The next couple of days Morna and Scott were working so we walked the length of Bang Tao beach and stopped for lunch and a beach side massage. The following day we took a boat trip to the lime stone karsts of Phang Nga bay and kayaked through caves and tunnels and into lagoons. The caves were full of bats and as we rowed in the darkness of the cave we could smell the ammonia from the bat's droppings. To Rik's amusement as we rowed under them one of the dirty bu**ers wee'd on Anna. We headed back to the boat for a buffet lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach of a nearby island.
On the Saturday Morna and Anna went shopping whilst Rik walked on the beach chasing crabs. The Sunday was Rik's last day here. We went out for breakfast to a place called the Rockfish. Scott took Rik up in the seaplane that afternoon whilst Morna and Anna lay by the pool. That evening we went out for tea, in a small open air restaurant favoured by Scott and Morna. A fantastic meal for very little money, and then we all took Rik to the airport to catch his plane back to Bangkok. Once in Bangkok airport, Rik headed straight for the famous Sky Lounge at the top of the building and settled into one....or three Mojitos.
So with Rik gone and Anna being left in Thailand Morna has kindly kept her busy this last week with lots of shopping, tasty food, trips to the Spa for massages, snorkeling off Coral Island, a trip on a speedboat, afternoons on the beach, a golf lesson at the driving range, horse-riding on the beach and yesterday we took a overnight trip to Krabi which has some stunning scenery.
We've had a fantastic trip away, met so many people, tried so much new food, been transported by Airliner, Seaplane, train, bus, kayak, tuk tuk, motorbike taxi, mountain bike, elephant, dinghy, inflated inner tube, car, junk boat, speedboat, longboat and even an electric golf buggy. Seen mountains, lagoons, waterfalls, forests, coffee and banana plantations, deserted beaches, jungles, sea life, beautiful temples, monkeys, flying beetles, bears, a tiger, Fire Ants, stray dogs, wild buffalo, geckos, a coral snake, and numerous creepy crawlies, juggled five currencies, been confused by four languages, learned that the Vietnamese sing 'Old MacDonald has a farm' at school, been bitten, bruised, stung, sun burned and poisoned, slept in 11 different beds, learned to cook Laos, helped Ruby Wax through customs, lost weight (Rik), bought the T-Shirts, and covered over 16000 miles!
Until the next adventure - good bye for now
Love from Rik & Anna x
