We spent the morning in Trujillo, another town who owe thanks to the Spanish. The main plaza has charming and bright colonial buildings all around and really is something to be proud of.
Afterwards we jumped on a minibus for 20minutes to the little beach town of Huanchaco. We found a guesthouse whcih cost only 20soles (4 pounds) per night. It had a roof terrace where we got to meet some nice people who`d we`d sit with drinking cuba libras, chatting and playing musical instruments. Between them they had w dijaredoos, a guitar, a recorder and some maaraccas. With everyone trying out the different instruments at the same time it was like being in a music lesson back at school! Thankfully, other nights it was jut guitar and singing.
The hostal called My Friend, also had an excellent restuarant which was always fulls. Stu and I would share our meal as the portions were so big and only cost 7soles. They did the best spagetti with home made pesto or fresh seafood and a dish called Chufa which is a chinese style fried rice with seafood in. They also did a dish called Picate de Mariscos, seafood in a yellow sauce, oh and a crab soup, and the biggest burgers you`ve ever seen fcr 5soles. And a delicious salad with an avocado stuffed with prawns. We just loved everything on the menu and we ate like kings for next to nothing.
We spent 5days there, just chilling out, enjoying the good food and sunshine. The waves there are pretty big which made swimming great fun. I even got Stu to come on a few early morning runs with me. Huanchaco is still not that touristy or over developed, not much goes on at night and as a result it was a very easy place to relax.
