Upon leaving, Bolivia managed to present me with dramas quatro, cinco, seis, seite y ocho. The journey from La Paz to Villazon (the border crossing town between Bolivia and Argentina) was horrific, I actually thought that I was going to die. The bus turned out to be a cargo transit bus (not what I was told when paying) and so was rickity and dusty and looked as though it may fall apart any minute. To add to this, the road - if you can call it that - was awful too. It was a dirt track full of boulders and barely wide enough for one vehicle. Throughout the hideous 23 hour journey the bus also managed to break down three times; twice due to a puncture and once to a blowout. So, as a result of this I was late arriving into Villazon and therefore missed my connecting bus to Tucuman, Argentina where I was to stay the night before continuing onto Puerto Iguazu. Luckily, by the time I had crossed the border and booked myself onto another bus, I only had a four hour wiat. The annoying thing was that the bus left at 4pm and a 12 hour journey meant an arrival time of 4am - not an ideal time for finding a hotel in big city. I managed it but it was hell! I was thankful that my next big bus journey wasn´t until the next morning giving me a whole nights sleep in a real bed!
The day to head to Iguazu arrived and I was faced with another long 18 hour bus ride. The bus, being Argentinian, was great though. I was fed, entertained with dvds and even a game of bingo! On arriving in Puerto Iguazu it was warm and sunny. I successfully checked into the first hostel I walked into, freshened up and before I knew it I was stood in front of the breathtaking Iguazu Falls.
The National Park was absolutely stunning and the air was so clean and fresh too. The first part of the falls I went to see is known as ´Garganta del Diablo´ (Devil´s Throat). It was deafening as well as dampening! It was huge, I was in awe, I loved it. My attempted descriptions and photographs really do not do it much justice at all. Another part I went to see was made up of a few smaller waterfall, two of which are known as the ´Dos Hermanas´. These were all as equally as beautiful. The water ran down the cliff face and through a mass of greenery creating rainbows in its path.
I loved every second of my visit here. I have never seen anything like it before, it was such a great experience, one that I hope I will always remember.
