Day 36-Lauterbrunnen
Today, Kallee and I returned home...for a few hours anyway. The group travelled by train to the top of snow-capped Jungfrau mountain to explore and see the Swiss scenery from above. The first train stop gave us a superior view of the valley, rolling hills, and humungous mountains towering over us, all within metres of each other. It was really cool. Onwards and upwards we continued; we actually had to go into the mountain because it was too steep on the outside for the train to go up! There were a couple places the train stopped for us to peek outside windows to the outside...it was quite cloudy though and we couldn't see much. Once at the end of the train ride, we hopped out and took an elevator to the very top of the mountian. We were in the clouds, and although it was only minus 4, the difference from the plus twenties that we were used to thousands of metres below made it seem a bit chillier. After enjoying the rocky and steep view, we went back down the elevator to go out on the snowy slopes. Some of our tour mates were touching real snow for the first time, so it was fun to watch them enjoy the experiences that Canadians take for granted; tobagganing, skiing, dog sledding, eating snow, and making snowmen. Just before we were ready to leave, the clouds cleared off, and we saw the most beautiful snow field and mountain range, which made the whole experience even better for the snow-newbies...and us as well. :) A group of us decided to go inside and eat, then made our way back down the mountain via train. At the camp, we had free time for a few hours, then supper, where we had cheese fondue!! i was very excited about that! Many people got ready for the "shock your mamma" party that was being held, so although I didn't go, I saw absolutely hilarious outfits...girls as boys, boys as girls, pregnancies, emos and goths, druggies....it certainly was shocking! :D
