Day 38-Amsterdam
On our way to the Netherlands we go! The drive through Germany was rainy, but it cleared up as we crossed the border into and through Belgium, then into the Netherlands! One of our rest stops was going into a cheese and clog factory; we learned how cheese is made, and were shown how clogs are actually carved from birch or willow, as well as some history about the shoes. Then of course, we were given time to check out souviners and try on a pair of clogs, and sample some cheese....yum. After this, we had a bike ride around the city of Edam on the old back-pedal-brake bikes...a fun time with the enthusiastic guide. Then, it was into Amsterdam! We checked into our last hotel on this tour and were given a little free time before we ate supper and then headed into the downtown to see the Red Light District and, as Josh called it, "experience a culture Dutch evening"...haha.
Day 39-Amsterdam
Well, the last day on tour has arrived...seems pretty surreal! We were given the day to explore, after a canal bike tour of the city's extensive network of waterways; the tour was pretty neat, as it was self-guided, and we were given a map with interesting facts about the areas we saw. During free time, most of the group went to the Anne Frank museum, which was very good and interesting to look into, as I didn't know much about it previously. Amelia, Kallee, and I wandered fro the rest of the time, then went back to the hotel to dress up a little for our last group meal. Tomorrow, we depart for London, leaving some people in Amsterdam at the airport...it will be sad to see them go, but the experience has been, for lack of better words, ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. :D I love all you guys!!
