The song 'hot, hot, hot' springs to mind when in Hoi an, as it is baking. After a nice air-conditioned bus ride, where we stopped at China beach and on the pass on highway 1a, which is 1200 metres above sea level. Our hotel is just outside the town, but walkable and we have a swimming pool, so after a sweaty walk we can just jump in the pool, like we did today.
Our first day we were taken to two recommended tailors, just in case we wanted anything made. After lunch Pete headed back to one of the tailors and he chose the fabric, chose the style and cut, and was measured up and told to come back the next day at 11am for the first fitting. So his suit and shirt were ordered and tie chosen. In the meantime I had chosen a design of dress, selected the fabric and also was measured up. So it was a successful first day and after that it was time to jump in the above mentioned pool, as we both had been sweating buckets. There is no chance here of wearing your clothes for a second time.
In the evening some of the group headed back into town, passing pitch black streets as the electricity was down in parts, luckily our restaurant was ok. We had some fantastic food, the spring rolls were amazing and my pork with mushrooms and paprika delicious. Pete opted for the prawns in coconut sauce, but wasn't quite enough so dessert was ordered.
Today we were supposed to be going on a bike ride to the countryside, but when we opened our balcony doors and the wall of heat hit us, we decided against it. We had our fittings and were told to come back later in the day to collect. We saw a cute little shop with handmade jewelery and popped in, surprisingly I didn't buy anything, but Pete bought himself a man necklace. It looks really nice, I will hopefully post some photos in the next few days for you to comment on.
More pool time was in order and when I tried to sunbathe it was too hot, so the tan will have to wait. Tonight I am having a Vietnamese cooking lesson, I can't wait especially seeing as I get to eat the five courses which I make. A thunder storm is just starting so hopefully that will cool down the temperature.
