After a rather luxurious coach ride, with big wide seats and foot rests, we arrived in Kuala Lumpur just as it was about to rain. Luckily we managed to find our hotel just before the skies opened. Our hotel is right in the heart of Chinatown and right in the middle of a busy market, we are on the 5th floor so fortunately we can't hear too much of the hustle and bustle going on downstairs. That night we cheated and headed for dinner at Nando's, it was a nice little treat and not much more expensive than the local food. We decided that the next morning we would get up early and head for the Petronas Towers in the hope of getting some free tickets to the sky bridge.
We got up at 7am, well I got up at 7, and Pete followed about 15 minutes later. We had breakfast at the hotel, because it was included, but Pete wasn't very impressed with the quality of the baked beans. We got on the easy to use train which took us right under the Petronas Towers. We arrived there just before 8.30am and the queue wasn't so bad, we waited for about 40 minutes before getting to the front and being given our 12.30 slot tickets. Obviously we had time to kill and the aquarium didn't open until 11am, so what else could we do, but wander around the huge shopping mall.
First before the shops opened, I spotted a nice looking hairdressers and decided to get it cut. After 3 months of no haircut, lots of sun, chlorine and little conditioner it badly needed it. The cut was really nice and just what I wanted, so I came out flicking my hair to show it off. In the mall they had the designer levels filled with Channel, Prada, Calvin Klein and lots more, unfortunately they had Jimmy Choo so I went just to look and drool over the gorgeous shoes (obviously no price tags). After getting a picture of me outside the store we moved on just looking around. They had a cool Lego display where kids (and their parents) could play and enter building competitions (unfortunately your team had to have kids, so Pete and I couldn't enter), they had amazing Lego statues of the Taj Mahal, Coliseum and the Petronas Towers. Just when we had to go to the sky bridge we found Topshop.
The sky bridge is around 170m above the ground and takes only 41 seconds to reach in the lift. There are some amazing views from up there, you can see all the different types of buildings from the skyscrapers to the old colonial style. It is definitely worth getting up for some free tickets. Obviously we had to go back to Topshop where I stocked up on some essentials for living in New Zealand for six months.
Then it was time to head to the awesome aquarium, not only did it have fish (obviously), but it also had spiders and reptiles. Pete was mean and showed me a massive disgusting looking toad, I felt sick, luckily it was behind glass, but I still moved away rather sharpish. There were some amazing tropical fish in various cool tanks, including a cylindrical one. The highlight had to be the 90 metre walkway through a huge fish tank, housing sharks, sting rays, moray eels, turtles and lots of brightly coloured fish. Because of the glass they appeared 30% smaller than their actual size, so the sharks must have been pretty huge. The tank even had a shipwreck, Pete said he wanted something similar when we got a house, so don't be surprised when you're invited round, if we give you a snorkel and mask first. We were just in time for the last feeding session of the day, when 2 divers jump in and feed all the fish, unfortunately the sharks weren't that interested (clearly they had got a tourist earlier), but we saw a giant sting ray and the turtles being cheeky with the divers.
We had had such a fun day and topped it off with some yummy food and beers at the Reggae Bar.
