We landed in Paris, CDG at 11:20 AM. First task is to pick our rental car up. They didn't have the car that we had prepaid for, so we got a free upgrade to a slightly larger car with navigation included. Got on the A1 motorway for the short drive (280 KM) to the English channel crossing at Calais. We found out very, very quickly that navigation was a MUST! Thank you!
Almost to Calais, we found the French ferry workers on strike, and the ferry backed up for 10km down the motorway. We didn't know this at first, and we wondered if it's always that crazy-busy. It was a stressful afternoon of finding our way to the next terminal. Not fun when you're tired, and driving in fast, crazy traffic!
Onwards, we drove 40km up the road to a less known/popular ferry crossing (Dunkirk), and managed to get right on the next crossing.
We were happy to witness a beautiful sunset during our crossing.
We arrived to the view of the white cliffs of Dover, around 10:00 PM , fueled the car up, and the boys bought their first gas stop treats.
At our booked hotel room, they directed us to their sister hotel 2 blocks away for whatever reason. Settled in for our first sleep in England - we made it!!
