So week 2 in Gyeongju... Well let me start by saying I still absolutely love it here :) It is still bloody freezing with winds from the himalayan mountains giving it that minus degree frost (chilly) but I have had another week of enjoying new food (the best cod fish ever yummy) and lots more sang-go-sal (bacon; pork)... I have also tryed "hangover soup" - WOW a meaty delight so so so good!!
This week I still lost at Poker night and new things I tried was: visiting a Wii bang (bang being room) to play mario kart in a room dedicated to it...visited an arcade place - an evening of cheap fun and even had a go at 'Ory bang - the rip off of nory bang (like a kareok room) but more of a box within the arcade...me and Lizzie were having fun with cheesey music while Howard was recovering from a headache and painful root canal - oh dear.
Right... I also went hiking up a mountain ... yes I am still terrified of heights and it was hard... but it was great fun and when you see the pictures of the views I am sure you'll agree!! Speaking of views I also visited a members only golf club (one of Howard's rich students took us - in his Samsung car... nice - like the top car in Korea... this guy is loaded!!) and you literally play golf in the mountains...WOW!!!
On the weekend... we went to Bowman lake - went in a hot air balloon and quad biking in the afternoon before walking round the lake during the sun set... having dinner at a posh hotel (still cheap for comparitive UK prices) and went out DOWNTOWN for some fruit (pineapple flavour) soju... which I actually liked!!! In Korea, literally the drinks are Soju OR fizzy beer (or pay $$$$$$ for imported drinks - which no one really does) so it was good foreigners (i.e. us non-Koreans) taking over "Downtown Wabar"... its always fun going on these nights out... its usual to wake up at 11am/ midday and stay out til 3-5am ... ouch my body clock is gonna take a while to get back to normal!!!
On the Sunday we went to Busan to the largest shopping centre in the world!!! We visited only a few of the 20 floors - dream world!! The getting there and back was an adventure as we got a wrong train and the hour bus was late and all a very fun though tiring day - of shopping :P :D :) yay!!!
Others things I did this week were again...sitting in on Howard and Lizzie's lessons... doing a bit of xmas shopping and general exploring the fashion shops of Korea (its like cheap Japan - a secret untapped source) and hanging with new Korean friends.
Lizzie and Howard again - so hospitable and really made me feel at home living in their world... I had such a great time that I am looking at coming back in January and then jumping on to explore some of Japan and Hong Kong too - again a definite recommendation as two weeks of smiles makes for a happy candy :)
****After S.Korea I had a plane ride to Bangkok...an overnight stay in a hotel (which had more cockroaches... back to Asian reality) and 2 further planes to Australia... all that malarky has been about 48 hours and now I am shattered yet reflective on the past 8 weeks and cant believe how much I've done...and now am pro at this airport shizzay... stay tuned for next Ozzie Adventures...
