Peterborough:
We were to spend a night at a site nearer to Peterborough as we wanted to go to the Camping and Caravan Show there (yes, I know, I know, many of you could think of better things to do with your time J). Scot, from whom we bought the van, and who looks after it while we are home in Oz, was to be on a stand there and was bringing us some paperwork, insurance certificates and so on, that we need to go out of the UK. But the sit emailed us to cancel our booking as the site was too waterlogged and everyone would just end up sinking slowly into the fens.
So it was another night at Stroud Hill, which was no hardship, before we headed to Peterborough. Did I mention it had been raining a lot?? Well, the showground was a quagmire! Valiant attempts to cover the mud with layers of straw were basically only mildly effective and after a few hours the paths were practically impassable in places!
With our paperwork in hand and a few purchases in the backpack, we headed to the next campsite in Northamptonshire called Top Lodge - at the edge of a forest called Finewood. It wasn't until we had booked it that we discovered that it had no amenities block. Now we like camping, a lot, but that night - and the next morning - was SO cold with wind as well as rain. It truly was like winter - both of us had frozen hands and feet. I keep being thankful that I bought my down-filled Michelin Man coat back when we arrived - it may have been quite expensive but I am sure getting my money's worth out of it.
And so on to London again.
