The plan was to head to the Lake District today and it was an absolutely stunning day for it! Travelling through the gorgeous countryside and lakes was just idyllic and the wee villages we passed along the way were beautiful. We ended up in Coniston where Amy had organised to meet her friend 'Pegs' (Megan) for lunch. We went to 'The Bluebird Cafe by the Water' which had a prime location by the lakeside. We had a walk after lunch by the lake then through to the village centre where we had a browse in a couple of shops before wandering back to the car.
We decided to go to Windermere from here where we were planning on visiting Beatrix Potter's Gallery but unfortunately it had just closed by the time we got there. We weren't bothered though because it was such a stunning village so we went for a walk down to the lakeside and soaked up the atmosphere. There were lots of people about enjoying the weather, having fish & chips, icecream or simply relaxing by the waters edge. It was a superb and picturesque scene that I will remember forever.
We were lucky enough to see the house that Beatrix Potter lived in on our way back to so we all got out of the car and took some pics. Parts of the countryside in this area reminded us of home with green paddocks and lots of sheep but the main difference is the stone walls segmenting the farmland. Even though I appreciated the stunning landscape this part of the UK has to offer it made me realise that New Zealand is truly an amazing country and we take the scenery for granted sometimes!
We had a BBQ at Amy and David's tonight and it was a fun filled evening of good food and fabulous company! Off to Edinburgh tomorrow so we are excited about that! We are so lucky to have Amy and David as tour guides and they are going far beyond what we would ever expect! AMAZING!
