Don't ever let anyone tell you that the Turkish Delights they sell in Australia are real!
We have just had some on the plane.
OMG!
Heaven!
Up at 6.30 am.
Bus transfer to Gatwick arriving at 8.30am.
Our last delicious breakfast at the London City Ibis.
Lovely driver on the transfer bus.
He was from Afganistan.
Been in London 15 years.
I think I can see why you suggested the train from Victoria to Gatwick, Amanda.
The traffic and weaving in and out of tiny streets and suburbs...
On the plus side, we did get to admire 'Leafy' Croydon.
Will take the shuttle next time.
We took off about an hour and a half late.
After not advising a gate number and the original take off time getting closer and closer, they finally announced that it was delayed.
We shot off from our position on the tiled floor below a 'Departures' screen, to Nandos for lunch.
THEN, they announce the gate.
Ate lunch anyway.
No problem getting to Gate 15.
That's it.
On to Turkey!
Oh, except I forgot.
They have a HARRODS at the airport.
( Elephants had long since gone out the window. That was only fun if it was the city store.)
I bought a bracelet.
I bought a bracelet at HARRODS.
( mini harrods )
In the passing of time, mini harrods will disappear from memory and this bracelet will be the bracelet I bought in London at HARRODS.
Pretty good, hey?
Landed 8.30 Turkey time.
6pm London time.
Met by Albatross Tours transfer bus which was above and beyond and we were 2 hours late.
GREAT to see the sign as we came out of customs though.
Into the bus.
Off to Dosso Dossi Downtown.
Beautiful hotel!
Beautiful room.
Wonderful young man on reception.
He said he had to say that he could not believe, after the war and everything, how friendly Australians are.
( We did give him a high 5 when at first he told us that we had been dropped off at the wrong hotel... but then he found our reservation.)
Sitting in the bar now.
We are loving this.
Now starts the 'relax and follow' part of the holiday.
And, just as an aside, I thought no one could pour drinks like the Greeks.
Let me tell you, a single scotch takes up 4/5 of the glass.
I am not sure why he gave me the bottle of coke.
I can barely fit it in.
And Emily had to remind me not to have ice in the drink.
Recommended that you don't drink the water in Turkey.
We are here and we are ready!
Hey, you pay after you have had your drinks.
75 lira later.
That's 2 Coronas and one 'single' scotch and coke.
One lira = $0.46 AUD.
Don't think I am drinking at their bar again.
That's $35.
Wow!

Andrew Browning Hello in Turkey,Thanks, but no thanks, you can have my Turkish Delight! Don’t know who invented this “interesting” treat, but……… ...........~~A PURCHASE AT HARRODS LONDON~~........... Well done, mini?..............never heard it....... its HARRODS LONDON!!!! Your hotel room looks nice and it was great to get such a good reception on arrival. (I bet they don’t have turkey on the menu haha) All settled in and time to reflect on all those fabulous memories you just created in London with Emily over a few drinks…………..pretty good eh? I like the sound of the drink measure…….could be a trap if you pay after you’ve had them though. Sit back and enjoy all that is to come.WOW This will be so interesting and full of amazement. Keep having fun my friend. XX0XX
Amanda Welcome to Istanbul :)Your hotel looks lovely and the terrace a lot of fun.I can see a few drinks here in the next few days! Make sure you try the local spirit 'Yeni Raki' (similar to ouzo and known as lion's milk) and the local beer 'Efes Pilsen'. Hopefully the local alcohol is less expensive. When in Turkey, drink as the Turk's do!Serefe :)
