...we arrive at the airport uncharacteristically early and despite making a few circles trying to find the car rental return exit we are at the checkin counter with a lot of time in advance
...our checkin clerk claims he speaks two words of Polish and we teach him his third one. He also says Polish seems easy. Hmmm...
...we arrive in a rainy and windy Copenhagen and once again I marvel at the quietness of the local airport
...J. orders a coffee. Regular, not large. They misunderstand. A largish cup appears on the counter. J. is surprised and she spontaneously exclaims: "Oh no!! It's too big!!!" The look on the young barista's face...priceless
...we take a highly efficient metro train to the center - it's fast, quiet and has no driver. 12 minutes later we're in Copenhagen
...our perseverance is rewarded - clouds disperse and soon sun appears. The city reveals its beautiful side to us
...I hunt for a taste from the past - a pastry I had seven years ago here and have dreamt of eating again since. We go to the city's most famous pastry shop. They don't have it but point us in the right direction.
...I buy a whole box of the cakes and J is ecstatic with her strawberry tartelette.
...we meet a lot of Polish people both in the city and at the airport (even working there)
...I eat two different types of hot dogs while J. eschews traditional Danish fast food for a Middle eastern one opting for a shawarma instead
...we go back to the airport to see our flight delayed by an hour
...we board and are shocked to find that not unlike in common low cost carriers, alcoholic drinks come at a premium in coach here. Young attendant won't budge even when I mention it's my birthday and I end up shelling out for a small bottle of bubbly
...I forget to put my phone in flight mode and suddenly it logs onto a satellite roaming network available on the plane - next think I know I receive texts saying each downloaded MB costs me €14!!! I manage to switch it all off just in time to avoid charges...
...we land super tired and J gets into a small bickering match with the im migration officer who then asks me: how do you put up with her? He teases us gently and with a smile but J doesnt appreciate that
...we meet L and my dad and after an interminable drive to Edison we collapse onto the guest couch in L's living room. Long day!!!
