The wind had picked up so hastened or departure. I couldn't believe we were on the road by 10.00am - unheard of!
We stopped in Ceduna to stock up on food, buy petrol and some wood to make the moke's back window. Kimbo bought a wetsuit for $40.00 from a guy in the street (I believe it can only have been stolen from the surf shop) but there way no way I was going to intervene.
After leaving Ceduna and heading west I knew there was no turning back we are really on our way. We checked at the Penong post office for our mail but it wasn't there...it wasn't there because it hadn't been sent!!!! My blood results aren't back yet either. Never mind on to Cactus we went.
Not surprisngly when we arrived at Cactus it was windy........I'm getting damn sick of all this wind - it should be hot after all it is the end of November and summer is but a few days away. It was too windy for a surf so we sat on the beach and watched some guys windsurfing.
The next few days were pretty much the same, Kimbo was up with the birds and checking the waves and then he'd either bring me a cuppa or breakfast completely while I lay in bed....I hope this never ends! He'd then go surfing and I'd do what I had to do, mainly indulge myself by having a shower or reading, or sitting outside in the sun, if it wasn't too windy or hot.
In the arvo after he'd had a kip we'd go for a walk to the shop or the caves or up to the sand hills. I'd made some icecream so there was no keeping him away from that for long. When there was no swell he worked on the moke and I'd continue to read. There isn't much to do at Cactus especially if not a surfer and there was no way I was going into the water....shark infested as it is.
We ran out of water quicker than I'd expected, and it happened while I was having a shower, never good.
Excited about leaving tomorrow and hitting the Nullarbor.
