Very early start to meet up with our travel guide and driver for the Tundra Wilderness Tour.
Dave picked us up in an old school bus which we discovered had a real problem with windows staying up, all set with our packed lunches off we headed. Dave was an ex school teacher and loved to talk and so he did for the 7 hour trip. He was full of knowledge and facts which he imparted to us during the day.
Heading up towards the Tundra we were treated to many wildlife sightings, and on our brief stops there were some really beautiful wildflowers and the scenery along the way was just amazing.
I and a number of fellow passengers were not happy going around the mountain road a one way with a give way rule those going up give way to those coming down and not many give way passing points along the way and a very big drop off.
The Tundra, is a major zone of treeless level or rolling ground found in cold regions, mostly north of the Arctic Circle or above the timberline on high mountains ( alpine tundra). Tundra is known for large stretches of bare ground and rock and for patchy mantles of low vegetation such as mosses, lichens, herbs, and small shrubs.
It was a very interesting day, but really pleased to arrive back at the lodge around 3.30pm with time to walk along the local shopping strip. A light dinner on the patio of the lodge restaurant in the late afternoon sun. Sunset today was at 11.40pm Sunrise was 3am so a long day.
