Sunday night was a killer! Hot, humid and stifling heat in accommodation without air-conditioning. So we fled from Split, or split from Split for Rijeka on the north coast of Croatia. These will be our last days in Croatia, it is such a beautiful country: the scenery on our way here was gorgeous, mountains reaching the sea, a trip of several hundred kilometers took 9 hours on the bus, yes we stopped at many little villages along the way, but the top speed was just 60 kilometers per hour, as the road twisted and turned, uphill and down along these mountainsides.

But it was not a burdensome ride, the scenery too beautiful and very interesting. We did note that in the north camping and caravanning are alive and well. There are lots of auto-camps in the villages along the way, right beside the water! Crystal clear and very inviting beaches!

We arrived in Rijeka without pre booked accommodation but quickly identified a good motel for a couple of days.

We also found a great place to eat! A lovely Croatian restaurant run by a very friendly, and humorous man. Peter had the best steak ever, and jean local first class fresh fish. It was so good we will go back tonight again!

Today we will explore the city and organize tickets for our trip to Venice, and later today we are going for a swim at the beach! Looking forward to that.
