Hey guys, Sorry we havn't updated in so long but yet again i wrote an entry and then all the electricity cut out so i lost it and also we have been doing hardcore travelling so not much time. We have done all of the Vietnam east coast from Saigon to Hanoi in 10days so i'll have to just give a brief update on each town.
Saigon- Ho Chi Minh City was good it was awesome to be back in Vietnam not sure why we love it so much but its our favourite place so far. We spent 3 nights here, the 1st day we did a tour to the Cu Chi tunnels on the outskirts of town. It was amazing our guide took us into the forest and told us loads of stories about the Viet Cong who built the tunnels and lived in them and also showed us the traps they set for the Us troops. At the end we actually went under ground into the tunnels, they were tiny and pitch black it was hard to believe that these people actually lived in them. The next day we went to the war remenants museum which was another harsh display of the vietnam war i know it was probably biased but you really do leave that place hating America for some of the things they did during the war, it was unbelieveable.
Mui Ne- We got the bus up to this small fishing town on the coast it was lovely and we were staying in these small bungalows in a resort on the beach but i have to be honest the place stank of fish. We only stayed one night and we got up at 5am the next day to go watch the sunrise at the sand dunes. We arrived in pitch black and were bombarded by the voices of about 15 children all shouting at us to buy a sand board ride off them. The sun rise was pretty lame as it was too cloudy but it was a new experience to see the sun rise when your not drunk and still awake from the night before. After we did the sand boarding and ended up with sand in every oriphise possible but was worth it got an amazing action pic of Burts. Then we went to see the Red Canyon this was way more impressive than the dunes we climbed up into the canyon and got some awesome pics.
Nha Trang- This was another beach town but way bigger and way more commercial, Burts said it reminded him of LA. We only spent one night here but took full advantage of the beach and chilled out as our next bus journey was another 12 hour and didn't arrive in the next town til 6am.
Hoi An- This was by far the nicest place we have been so far it was a little town about half way up the coast but it was so different from anywhere else as it was so unspolit. It was all really old buildings and little roads with Wooden japanese bridges, you had to pay to get into the old quater for restoration purposes but we just loved it as it felt like this place had never changed over the years. Also the main reason alot of tourists come here are for the tailor made suits, the clothes were awesome and really cheap we couldn't understand why everything was so fashionable but they copy all the designs from catalogues like Next and magazines like Glamour. If you wanted you could have walked into a shop with a picture of a piece of clothing and they would have had it measured and made witin 24 hours. Burts bought a jacket and i got 2 dresses and some sandals we really could have bought loads but had to stop ourselves as our backpacks are already bursting at the seams (that is literally for Burts backpack)
Hue- This place was probably somewhere worth missing it was good to break the journey up as we stayed for 1 night but there wasn't much character about the place also it rained constantly while we were there and it was getting really cold as North Vietnam has quite cold winters and we didn't have any warm clothes. The pink anorak got another appearance though!!! Ben and Joy are probably laughing at the fact we though it was cold as it really was only about 16 degrees.
Hanoi- Obviously we been to Hanoi before but was nice to be back although it really was very cold there. Burts had to post his backpack home as it had seen its last days everytime you picked it up the bottom compartment zip fell apart and everything dropped out but it has done alot of globe trekking and done both him and his dad very proud, RIP!! We got another new one for 25 dollar and called it True Blue!
Anyway we got our flights over to Phuket where we met back up with Beth and Jim, its red hot here and the showers have hot water which is non existent in Cambodia and Vietnam so we are happy to be back in Thailand and have booked a lovely place to stay for 4 nights over xmas.
To everyone back home hope you have a lovely xmas we miss you all and wish we could be there to celebrate with you or rather you be here.
Take care and speak to you soon x
p.s did anyone see Hello magazine this week with Brad and Angelina, Burts has got the same blue and white checked scarf which he bought in Cambodia he hasn't worn it round his head yet though.
