BYE BYE BETH & JIMBO!!!
Hello
Well ive finally got my arse kicked and been told that i have to write the next few journal entries which i suppose is only fair considering i havnt done one single write up.Well i will start,we flew into bangkok at the most ridiculous time in the morning we had to be up at 4:30 so as you can guess we wernt in the most amazing of moods the flight went pretty quick and we arrived in bangkok about 9:30.Me and ruthy went straight to bed as soon as we got there as we were both feeling pretty ill which we just put down to the early start. Anyway as we awoke from our slumber ruth still felt realy s***ty we said our goodbyes to Beth and Jim who were flying to Singapore and we just decided to sleep for the rest of the day.As most of you will probably know for the next few days Ruth suffered serious food poisioning and we spent most of our time watching james bond movies in the hotel room. After a few days and lots of rehydration we decided it was time to move on so booked the bus to Siem Reap (Cambodia) we were a bit dubious of the travell arrangments as we have had some s*** journeys so far but the bus is so cheap we couldnt turn our noses up at it. We set of from Bangkok at 9 in the morning the Thailand side of the journey was fine but as soon as we got through border control and departed from the Cambodian side the roads just got a hell of a lot worse basically they were just dirt tracks with pot holes every 10 yards. After a whole 5 hours of bouncing around on the bus we finally arrived in Siem Reap. Soon as we got off the bus we were badgered into staying at the first guesthouse we gave in and pretty much straight away dropped our bags and headed for bar street. We moved guest house in the morning to be close to the action and spent the rest of the day exploring the city and getting piss wet through on the walk home from an extreme case of down pour.Today we hired a tuk tuk driver to take us to see Angkor Wat which is an amazing collection of temples dotted around the outskirts of the city we managed to spend a whole 6 hours just walking around them all. They were really fascinating and we were mostly amazed at the height of the temples and the many steep steps which you had to climb to reach the top. The best temple we visited though was one which had been built in the middle of a forest it was totally falling apart all around us but what was left was incredible as the biggest trees we had ever seen were growing around and through the temple. The roots of these trees were probably the size of normal trees you see back home and they were winding their way through the walls. Its quite hard to explain but we will get some pics up soon.
We were absolutley exhausted at the end of the day and collapsed onto the bed as soon as we got back to the hotel. We paid 20 dollars each for a day pass into the temples but some people come here and get a week pass, don't think we would have made it to the end of a week. Anyway it has been a very good start to Cambodia and we can't wait to move onto Phnom Penh the capital city, we are catching yet another bus for a 5 hour journey south.
until next time,
