DAY 14: DRIVE TO SAVANNAH
Brass monkeys this morning as we left Orlando in our Spanish speaking Dodge SUV. Once I figured out the language controls, we set course for Savannah.
We headed East out of Orlando towards the coast. The highway led us right to Daytona Beach, the home of the famous international speedway that carries it's name. They run tours here, but you are also allowed to just wander up into the stands and view the track free of charge. Amazing to see first hand how big the place is, yet how close the seats are to the actual track. The mind boggles at what it would be like to sit here on race day.
After a quick pitstop (pardon the pun), we headed North. We made the decision to stop for lunch at St Augustine, a quaint little historical town on the coastline which has its own fort complete with moat and canons. Once we polished off our panini (grilled sandwiches) and gelato, we jumped back in the family truckster for the final 3hr trek to our destination.
More than happy with our accommodation here at the Andaz Savannah.
Tomorrow we might just jump on a trolley and see where it takes us!
