Craig & Jills Round the World Trip
On Monday we did all the mian sights of San fran, using the car to its full advantage. It was lovely and sunny again. First we drove up the road from our hotel to the top of the crookedest street, and then drove down it, getting our photo taken by all the tourists. Next stop was Coit tower to give us a view of the city. Next a drive to Golden gate bridge, yes it really is that red, looked amazing against the blue sky. Walked across, and to our amazement saw dolphins swimming underneath. Drove across the bridge and a drive up the headland on the other side of the bay to get a great view of the bridge looking back at San Fran. Jill saw a hellicopter fly underneath the bridge, but Craig managed to miss it. Next stop a famous street of houses in san Fran that appear in all the tourist postcards. We wern't sure which ones they were until a local pointed us in the right direction, thats cause all the houses look really nice and different. Finally we dropped the car off and used our legs and actually walked to fishermans wharf to get a boat to alcatraz. We did the evening tour. It was amazing/spooky walking round the cell house, especially as it was officially the first time we had been in prison, no comments Ben about Barnsley. We were then 2 of the privilaged 20 to get to go upstairs into the hospital section, where we saw the birdmans cell, the operating theatre, and the bath that al copone used for his hemorroids, it was even more spooky as it was now dark and this tour was by torch light. Tuesday we went for a ride on the tram, and hung off them like true tourists, Craig enjoyed waving to everyone taking photos of the trams. Had a walk round downtown, which was a surprise, as we had forgot we were in a city. Headed back to fishermans wharf, for some yummy pancakes and to see all the snorting sea lions at pier 39. Luckily we took all the photos yesterday as today it was cloudy. By 5ish the fog had started to roll in so we drove back up to golden gate bridge to see the fog hide the top of the bridge. We really liked San Fran, its a really nice place. Lovely houses, and not like a typical american town at all. Next stop Yosemite Park.
