So we headed out of Chattanooga. It was dry to pack the car but, inevitably, it started to drizzle as we left. On and off rain until lunchtime when we found ourselves in Dollywood country (Dolly Parton). Found a car park to eat our picnic lunch and then set off up into the Great Smokey Mountains. Climbing for 15 miles or so, the views were restricted by the cloud on top of the mountains but at least the sun was making infrequent appearances. At the top 5000 feet up, of course it was misty and the spectacular views - weren’t!
We then descended through the town of Cherokee (Native American not Indian! Country) and then into Bryson City. The most important thing about BC is that it has a railroad station for the Great Smokey Mountain Railroad. A heritage train runs from there on a 4 hour run. We didn’t have that long! In the event we strolled into town which is small, but pleasant. Also checked out the local craft brewery and possible restaurants. Oh and the sun came out. But not for long as it was soon lashing it down again!
We were staying in an Air BnB - called the Tiny House! It was a small house indeed but had a living room, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom downstairs and a mezzanine lounge up a ladder! All very modern, well equipped and loads of lighting. Everywhere!
Ate at an Italian (next door to brewery) and enjoyed an evening on the stoop watching the fireflies!
