We arrived in Atlanta yesterday after lunch but had a bit of difficulty actually locating the apartment block. The one way system didn’t help but in the end we were met in a petrol (gas) station and escorted! The story of the AirBnBs (and this apartment in particular will form a separate blog entry!) For now, suffice it to say that it is big!
We decided to eat at Mary Macs Tea Rooms which is just round the corner and is, in fact, a large restaurant (dining rooms). A good meal was had.
This morning we walked to the Centennial Olympic Park (1996) and, as usual, Andy managed to select one of the less desirable areas (an underpass) to walk through. However, we got to the park and had a good wander round before setting off in search of a coffee. You would think in an American city that would be easy but we had to walk quite a long way to find a coffee shop that was open. And then it was a Starbucks! Aaaggghh. Anyhow, we gave them a chance and had a not half bad coffee and a pretty good chocolate brownie! After returning to the park and sitting on a bench in the sun (yes folks, it’s stopped raining!) we decided to go to the aquarium. Again this turned out to be pretty good - especially the ocean section with a large whale shark, rays and loads of other fishes. They are also building a huge extension which will make it even better.
We decided not to do the tour of Coca Cola World as we hate the stuff!
Then to Piedmont Park and the Botanical Gardens. These were excellent and we enjoyed looking for all the Alice in Wonderland planted exhibits. Interestingly, when you go into the tropical house it is cooler than outside!
Tonight is our last night so we will be out to dinner and then thinking how to spend tomorrow when our flight isn’t until 22.20!
