LAOS...... we floated down the river the first day, and chilled out on a longboat. We had a tourguide and he was called Sabat, he earlier on in life had actually been a monk. Me and a couple others on the trip were really intrested in this and found out that he had been one for 17years. That means no - drugs
- WOMEN!
- Alcohol - i certainly could not have done this. He was a fantastic man, and I felt a real attachment and felt fond of him even after talking to him just for an hour. He had stopped as he out of his brothers was the only one not married and his elders needed looking after. He said he missed it alot though but now had a girlfriend and was getting ready to settle down.
On the float down the river we got off at a village, that was like a Hill Tribe as such. There were a hell alot of kids who all wanted to impress us, and followed us around the place. But it was amazing to see the village in action and all of the everyday tasks that people were doing. After entertaining the kids we got back on the boat and floated down the river more. We eventually got to Bag Sue or something like that. It was dark by the time we got there and electrictiy in this place went off at 10.30 so we went out to dinner at a Bangladeshy Restraunt. The food took an hour and a half to get to us, and that is not a lie! It was crazy, this included vegetable soup that the girls ordered.
The next day we got up early and again floated diwn the rtiver. Talking and playing cards, was very relaxing. Got to some caves near the end which had buddha's inside... was a place when the Vietnam War was going on, that people from Laos used to hide in.
Got to Luang Probang at 5ish and went straight to the guesthouse. They were small bungalows for two or three people right on the rivers edge. Was so peaceful and i would have payed alot if i were staying here not on a trip. We had a wander around the town which was alot more touristy than the last few places, but the chilled life of the Laoations really showed. We went out the first night and i had beef that felt when i ate it that i was eating the cow itself (perhaps thats how they like it)! Went back to the Bungalows and made alot of noise and had a complaint.
It was very like the Jerry Springer show, as one of the guys we are staying with came out, we all knew as he is very camp but. Also we learned about a woman on our trip from Russia who had got with an American to get a Visa then found out on the honeymoon that he was gay, was an entertaining night though as a few drinks were drunk and people relaxed alot more.
Got up at 5.40am the next day to go on a trek to the waterfalls, we went through a jungle and up and down hills but got to see people farming and hunting in the forests. Gave you an insight to how these people lived their lives. Got to the waterfalls and it was amazing, water was completely clear and 100ft drop. Lost of pictures were taken. Went swimming which was cold but jumped in from smaller waterfalls and swung in, VERY FUN.
Had a heavy night where we went to the HIVE BAR which felt very western and had lost of vodka and m150's during Happy Hour. Then went back to the girls bingalow and got another complaint at 2.00 in the morning due to singing. tut tut ....... Aparently she came round with a torch on her head, no1 could control themselves..!
The rest will be written soon... as my tummy is calling for FOOD
