So through the border and onto Phnom Penh. Me and a few of the girls decided we would go to a few Cafe's in our bookelet. One was closed and the second had a Arts Exhibition on, we still stayed and got some free red wine though so....
When we left the bar - terrential rain started and we decided we could not make it to where the group were eating. SO we went to a restraunt and ordered 13dishes between us we were so hungry!!!
Next day was one of the reasons that I had chose this Intrepid trip. The killing fields. First up was the genecide museum, it was called S-21. It was were the intellectuals had been investigated - tortured and then killed. Had been a school before which gave it a more eerie presence I felt. During this I felt the same feeling that I had when going through the Holocaust part of the Natural History Museum. Knowing and learning more and more about Pol Potts regime. Then the killing fields, when I got there I was amazed at how much was growing there, also that there was still bones you could see in the ground. Why had these not been excavated?? Everyone was solemn after this and on the bus home their was silence.
We flew to Siem Reap on the 8th of March. Got to the hotel which was lovely and did some washing myslef in the bath!!! Had fajita's for dinner that were know way as good as Uncle Bens or whatever mix athome. Had an early evening and watched some Will and Grace, felt like I was at home. Untill the next morning and the Cambodian Humidity really hit me, we saw Angkor Wat. People had told me that once you see this, every other temple is slightly more in-significant. It was amazing but the next temple we saw was the one that is in Tomb Raider, it has Trees growing out of the rocks. This was my favourite of the ones we saw. It added to the effect as we walked through a slight jungle before getting there. After all this all I wanted was the pool, so stayed around here most the afternoon. Had snake, crocodile and ostrich for dinner. All were ok but Snake was too chewy i felt.
Went to some more temples today, one which had amazing carving that was 3D. went to a landmine museum that had been set up by an ex khymer rouge soldier. He had left them and fought with the resistance, and now had dedicated his whole life to de-activating land mines across the country. We went to a school in the afternoon, and i showed off my football skills (or lack of) woth the Cambodian children. Then watched some traditional dancing.
Next day was the road back to Bangkok, if you have done this you will know how i felt as had a hangover. It was slightly like the idgeway in Cranleigh but for 150miles so took an absoultue age!!! When we got to the border we changed into minivans which were alot more comfortable and then back to the Grand Ville. Went for our last supper with my travel group which was quite emotonal, as we had been forced together for a month and some of the people i would never see again.
Going to Koh Samui with Kate Hislop (ex girlfriend) and Georgie Perry, then FULL MOON Party. Sorry it has taken so long to update this. But am on a bus tonight to go and see them, so you are up to date on what i have been up to. Will add the rest of the pictures in the next few minutes... Love to All x
