Bryony in Oz
Hi!
Ok, for some reason my website isn't showing my past two entries, so I have to do a quick update on the past week! We went scuba diving (something I swore I'd never do !) and it was wicked. Saw so much of the reef and came face to face with some really scary beasties. But sadly then got stung by a blue box jellyfish (no bigger than an ice cube with 2 metre long tentacles as thin as hair) - the sting is so painful but doesn't last too long, and the blokes on the boat loved showering me down with vinegar. It got funnier cos I'd been the only one stung to begin with, and had been "very brave" and just got out without letting on to everyone else that the jellyfish were around - but then about eight of the other swam into them mouths first, and so it was mick Jagger lips all round on the way back to Cairns!
Then Helen and I took a road trip up to the rainforest. It was soooo remote, and humid. We went trekking on our own ealry one morning, maybe a little unwise, and I walked straight into a giant spider's web. Ended up with the thing sitting on my knee, pretty scary! The drive back was fun too, there was a landslide from the rain and half the road literally fell into the sea just ahead of us. It would NOT have been easy to explain to the hire company that their car had simply fallen off a cliff!
We went white water rafting in Mission Beach on Wednesday, and I loved it! Defintely going to be my newest crazy fad when I get back to the UK, it was like being on a rollercoaster all day long!
We're finally making our way down the coast. Arrived in Airlie Beach last night for the Australia Day celebrations, which were predictably manic. Then tosay we were meant to start our three day sailing trip, but there's a cyclone brewing just off the coast and so it was cancelled. In fact, we've been advised to get out of this town and head south asap since the cyclone may hit any time and the roads are flooding quite badly. Suite me, bring on the sunshine!
So we're doing a sixteen hour bus journey tonight, wicked. But the hopwfully it'll be golden beaches all the way back to Sydney!
Gotta dash,
Bry
