Our last stop for the trip was Amsterdam, the "Venice of the North." Amsterdam is a lively combination of old and new, with picturesque canals, beautiful 17th century architecture, and world-famous museums, including the Rembrandt and Van Gogh.
We started our day with walking the Spiegelkwartier (Mirror Quarter), the area with more than 70 antique shops and art galleries. We continued to another area of town named, De 9 Straatjes (The 9 Streets). These 9 side streets connect the main canals and are decorated with trendy vintage shops, bohemian second-hand stores, art galleries, restaurants, and jewelers.
Next we visited Anne Frank's house. The opportunity to move through the small quarters and secret doors Anne Frank and her family lived for a few years was truly amazing and saddening.
The rest of the day was spent walking through Vondelpark, Dam Square, and shopping the longest and most famous street, Kalverstraat. As well as, dodging the hundreds of people on bikes.
During our afternoon, stroll we passed a few things Amsterdam is most famous for several "coffee shops" and the Red Light District. These two legalized "activities" definitely give the city a provocative, but interesting feel.
A great city to end a wonderful trip!
