So I've come to the end of my 10 day tour in Ireland and all I can say is I think my liver will be happy when I leave this crazy green island!! It seemed like it was as much about the nights , if not more, than the amazing things we saw and learnt during the days. But that must be Ireland, every town has at least 4 pubs which are full any night, and days are a haze of green and amazement of the beauty and just the damn greatness of this island! I think itd take a long time to get over the hangover from Ireland!!
Sunday 6th July: I arrived here after a marathon bus ride through London out to Stansted and the unique experience of Ryanair and instantly felt at home in the streets of Dublin. An afternoon wandering around and trying to local food-yummy chips.
Monday 7th July: Up early to start my Paddywagon Tour. Got on the bus and got a little worried about the amount of old people getting on with me!! We headed out of Dublin and northwards passing through little towns with cemetries, 400 year old heads, churches and monk towersWe arrived in Derry in Northern Ireland and did a walking tour of the city which was facinating. The history, especially the not so distant, was amazing to think things like that happening in that town in my lifetime was crazy! Our first night in Ireland and straight on the drink and garlic cheese fries at early hours of the morning.
Tuesday 8th July: We pushed on towards Belfast stopping at the Giants Causeway which was bathed in sunshine (the only time we saw it for the whole friggen trip!!!) then some rope bridge before arriving into Belfast that night.
Wednesday 9th July: The next day we did a Black Cab Tour of the city (in a maroon cab!!) which took us to places like Shankill and Falls Roads and the Peace Line where we got to grafitti :) Then back to Derry for Round 2 at our pub this time with more drinks, more music and a lot of dancing and our fav garlic cheese fries. Warning: they are only good after 12pm when you are drunk!!!
Thursday 10th July: Southwards into the Republic again and a pretty non-eventful day until we got to the village of Cong where Linds, Calvin, Scott and I were delighted to find our beds covered with pubes, especially Scott who "Didnt so much mind them.." After an average dinner we walked through a scary wood, a massive golf course and found an amazing castle!! The next day we found out a couple on our tour had got engaged there and it was the greatest, most beautiful story!!
Friday 11th July: Day 5!!! And continuing southwards towards Galway and the suprise hike of my life. So we thought wed climb Croagh Patrick-pretty easy take an hour or so. WRONG!! It was the hardest hike of my life up steep rocks almost vertical but me and Linds made it with horns intact and the greatest sence of accomplishment. We celebrated doubly as hard that night :p
Saturday 12th July: Next day, down into Kerry and the Cliff of Moher and more green and into our accomodation for the night-the Randy Leprechaun with its vomit/bleeding walls and as I had an early night for once, I missed all the shenanigans :p
Sunday 13th July: Onwards to Killarney taking in the Dingle Peninsula then the next day the Ring of Kerry, both beautiful although both very foggy!! We also did a buggy ride around Killarney Nat Park. Also in a rare bit of downtime we shopped and played hairdressers with me ending up with almost black hair. That night was Martin, our tour managers, last night and with an awesome band-hot lead singer and they played Fans-my fav song ever, the night was a good one!
Monday 14th July: Things were a little different this morning with not having to pack up and a new bus driver/tour manager. The hangover however was a constant. We went out along the Ring of Kerry which although a little foggy was still as beautiful as everyone makes out! A rare quiter night was well needed.
Tuesday 15th July: We headed down to Cork and against warning and gut feeling, we kissed the Blarney Stone and then with lips tingling, wondered how long itd take us to break into a rash! Our last night on tour so me and Linds made it a good night and when Youre the Voice came on, things couldnt get any sweeter.
Wednesday 16th July: Waking up this morning worse for wear, again, we hit the road..hard and Kilkenny was where it fell apart. The Guiness Brewery seemed like the worst idea ever but we somehow made it through and after saying a sad goodbye to everyone had a well needed sleep!
