It was sad to say goodbye to such a beautiful part of the world and probably the best lifestyle. How would I cope without my daily swim or sunbake or sleep?? It was also going to be weird travelling in such a small group-down to 4 of us! I had made lots of new friends and would miss them. Throughout these two trips I had visited such interesting places and had such good time, I wasnt sure I want it to be over!
Friday 18th July: Seems like ages ago that I woke up early one morning a lil hungover from fat frogs and jumped on a big bus out of London down to Dover across the channel into contential Europe.
Saturday 19th July: First stop was the city of Paris, complete with snails and a campsite full of feral gypsy children. Actually Paris was full of gypsys and I was very suspicious when my map went missing. We did all the sightseeing things like Camps Elysee, Arc de Triumphe complete with mental roundabout, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame. Finsihed off the night with a romantic picnic with cheese, grapes, wine under the Lourve with 4 hot girls :p
Sunday 20th July: Then onto Amsterdam, the seedy/rainy city. We enjoyed our front row seats at a sex show which was probably the most bizarre thing I have ever seen. But pretty funny when they got people up on stage (not me!!) and Muffin dressed as a gorilla sprayed us all. Then went out for a good night complete with meeting up with Amz and a massive trek back to the campsite.
Monday 21st July: The next day was full of rain and sore heads. After a failed attempt at a bike ride, we went to a cheese and clogs factory in Edam. The rest of the day was mostly lining up for Anne Franks House but it was totally worth it to see such an icon.
Tuesday 22nd July: On through Germany, through the Rhine Valley and Heidelburg and was feeling stoked to be able to understand the language. Obviously those 3 years of German had sunk in through the Disney sing alongs. We visited the beautiful town and castle of Heidelburg before retiring to our riverside camp where we got cabins to dry out our stuff!!
Wednesday 23rd July: From there into Czech Republic for a good pub crawl through random but beautiful Prague streets and a look at the beautiful castle all lit up at night, making us think we were all in a disney fairytale.
Thursday 24th July: A day of sightseeing started late after a sleep in and began with a lunch time cruise down the River Vlata. Then a visit to the famous Charles Bridge and a wander amongst the beautiful alleys. Back to the campsite to hide out in the cabin before me and Claire sucked it up and went out into th rain soaked tents whcih wasnt that bad after all.
Friday 25th July: Off through Slovakia into Austria. Vienna was pretty with fantastic sundaes and me Claire and Ange showed our class by scrubbing our feet in front of Maria Teresas Statue. Next morning a visit to the beautiful Schonbrunn Palace and its gardens complete with maze and labyrinth!!
Saturday 26th July: Onto Hungary stopping in Bratislava, Slovakia along the way for our first spot of real sunshine. Budapest had a good night of karaoake and riverside pubs.
Sunday 27th July: Then a day of sightseeing around Buda Hill and bathing in Pest. Then the most amazing night time cruise, of the most beautiful city in lights.
Monday 28th July: it was time for Serbia and Belgrade which was interesting to say the least. The history of the place was facinating and the bullet holes and blown up buildings were a massive reminder of what actually happened there way too recently.
Tuesday 29th July: Onto Bosnia which was a hell of a lot more beautiful and definately one of my fav places on tour. Sarajevo was amazing and completely depressing at the same time. The bullet holes, mass grave sites and tunnel muesuem were very very sobering but one of the best thing Ive done in my life.
Wednesday 30th July: Out through Bosnia, more amazing scenary and stopping at Mostar for a cold dip but lovely place. Then it was time for Croatia!! The views out of the bus window of the Adriatic Coast were stunning, it seemed like we had been away for the coast for waay too long!! First stop into our refugee camp and straight down to the beach for an amzing swim! Later that night we were treated to the full Dubrovnik experience on the Number 6. An introduction to Fresh Towers and Fuegos that started a beautiful and deadly relationship.
Thursday 31st July: Possibly the worst morning ever. Work up in a boiling hot tent with a thumping head and quesy stomach, made an emergency dash to the hotel's pool which nearly came unstuck as we ran past a rubbish truck. We then decied to head into town and wandered around before acting like complete gypsies and sleeping on the floor of the old town. Then time for our day cruise out to the islands of Lopud and Kolocep which was fantastic and gave us a taste of what was to come the next week. The night was very relaxed and early to bed.
Friday 1st August: Was a lot nicer morning and a very relaxed day of hanging by the pool and beach and washing. Me, Claire and Ange went out for a lovely dinner on the water of the Dubrovnik port then it was back into the old favourites of Fresh and Fuegos.
Saturday 2nd August: Feeling s*** again and minus a shirt, it was onto Split via a long, slow traffic jam down the coast, to say goodbye to most of our Contiki crew but to continue on with others and meet up with Amz for Croatian Island sailing. We set sail and recieve our first amazing lunch and settled into our rooms. We landed on Hvar amongst all the massive yachts and had a walk around the town/organised a picnic dinner before early night.
Sunday 3rd August: Started sailing early and was beautiful to wake up to the ocean so calm. And began the daily routine of breakfast-sunbake-swim-lunch-sunbake-swim-dock. Today we docked in Mljet which was mostly national park and we took a walk to the salt lake for a swim and take a boat to the monastry. Back to the boat for a bbq and to watch the amazing sunset.
Monday 4th August: Again breakfast-sunbake-swim-lunch-sunbake-swim-dock, this time in Korcula which was amazingly hot. We wandered around the town checking out Marco Polo's supposed birthplace before bumping into Flip, our Contiki manager. Went for dinner then met back up with Flip for a couple of drinks before retiring to the boat.
Tuesday 5th August: The usual breakfast-sunbake-swim-lunch-sunbake-swim-dock, arriving in Dubrovnik pretty early. It was friggen hot so much so that we stayed on the boat playing cards until it cooled down. Ten ventured into town on a more comfortable bus and venturing to the hidden cliff bars with their amazing views. Then a lovely dinner then back to the old haunt of Fresh where we ran into Mooresy (one of the guys from Contiki). We found a lovely old castle/waterfront bar, skipped Fuegos this time and enjoyed the walk back to the boat.
Wednesday 6th August: Woke up then breakfast-sunbake-swim-lunch-sunbake-swim-dock, today in Makarska, on the mainland. Again extremely hot and we explored the markets before hitting the beach and checking out the cave bar and the cliff which James jumped off! Out for dinner then ventured to the cave bar which was pretty cool. Me and Claire then made the mistake of going for a walk along the cliffs to find the Saffers doing cliff jumps. After that, definately time to head back to the boat.
Thursday 7th August: Further onwards and again breakfast-sunbake-swim-lunch-sunbake-swim-dock, this time in the town of Omis, again on the mainland. We walked around the town and the markets looking for pirate stuff. Then time for our Pirate Party/Games night.
Friday 8th August: Some people went rafting this morning so it was the end of our normal routine. Instead we hung around the boat, went for a walk and did not much. We sailed onwards and landed in Split. Me and Claire wandered round in the heat through the streets, markets and Diocletian's Palace. We then went out for our last dinner together then headed out to some bars along the foreshore.
