Some random from the desk of BRJohnson...
1) Street dogs in Peru are AWESOME. The dogs here are all mutts, yet they are all healthy, well proportioned and have great coats. I honestly was to take everyone home. The only ugly ones I have seen are a) the traditional hairless Peruvian dog= large rat= gross an b) a Brittish lady's yappy dog with short legs and long body
2) Peruvian children are VERY well behaved. They are a part of families, not the center of them. Thy have chores and responsibilities starting from when they can walk. In the rural areas, the children are responsible for herding the livestock and taking care of their younger siblings. It is not a rare sight to see a 4 year old taking care of a 2 year old holding a baby out and about. The kids here are not demanding, whiny and helpless. Thy are contributing members of their family starting from when they can walk. The only whining I have heard is from a French 3 year old at our first hostal.
3) Though there are obvious gender roles, both men and women are respected equally. In addition, men are VERY respectful of women. I haven't gotten a long stare, whistle or cat call, which is different from my experience in other latin american counties. Both men and women work and have mutual respect for each other societal responsibilities. Men and women work together, drink together and raise families together.
