I am currently on the train from Ollantaytbo to Aguascalientes Callientes. We finished the third day of our trek today. Waking up in Patacancha, we started to head down in elevation towards Olantaytbo. Patacancha was a
Cute small town with two feet still in tradition, similar to the villages we trekked through in the last two days. All the ladies wore the traditional skirts, sandals and ornately decorated hats and the men all in bright colorful ponchos. Saying goodbye, we started our 10 mile decent. We passes through towns and it soon became evident that we were traveling through time. The lower we got and closer to the bigger towns, the more modern the houses, local dress and infrastructure looked. It made me a little sad, but also appreciative that we were able to get a glimpse into the traditional and rural way of life in e highlands. We stopped mid way and had some Chicha, the local fermented corn based alcoholic drink. it tasted a bit like the sour beers that are big now, but better. for 50 cents a liter, the price was right. I could have drank the whole liter, but sharing it did the trick.
We made it to O town for lunch.
