So after an extended trip, we have arrived at our base for the next 2 weeks or so. Flew over the alps coming from Frankfurt to Lyon, which was pretty special - spectacular peaks covered in snow, others razorbacked and contrasting their blackness with the white. Quirky squiggles of cloud strung out along the ridges.
It is midsummer here, and we lunched on bread French bread, ham and cheese all washed down with beverages of a variety of natures - mine was Perrier with peach syrup, pretty funky.
Were delivered to our accommodation and had fabulous showers, which made us feel much more human. Went for a circumnavigation of this beautiful town, narrow streets, cobbles, ancient doors and shutters. It was invaded by the Nazis in WWII and there was damage done due to bombing but it has mostly been repaired. We are staying in a tiny little house built in the shadows of the local chateau and gorgeously converted into a series of small sleeping accommodations, bathrooms and other facilities. Our suite is on one level, but there are two other levels, none of which are interconnected, so to move between kitchen and bedroom is quite a journey.
We are trying to adjust to traffic travelling on the reverse side of the road. We have done it before, but there is something of an adjustment period in there until it seems normal.
