We began our overland bus journey from Iquique, Chile along the Pan American to reach our final destination of Quito, Ecuador, yesterday.
We waved goodbye to our five star hotel at around 9.00 in the morning and hopped on our first bus. Very nice bus indeed, Chileans really know how to provide service. 4.5 hours later we were at the border town of Arica. Another beach town so we had a chance to spend the afternoon strolling along the beach before we had our taxi-bus border crossing into Peru.
By around 7.00pm we were over the border and officially in Peru once again.
Arriving into Lima this afternoon the five star cleanliness had worn off. We once again looked like dirty backpackers. Too dirty for our own liking so instead of getting on a bus 3 hours later for the next 20 hour bus leg of our journey we purchased tickets for that tomorrow.
This is the first city we have double backed on so far and it is kind of weird and comforting to be back in a relatively familiar setting. Our taxi driver recommended a hostel for us, and pretty good recommendation too! It is just like someone{s home and very comfortable just what we needed.
Tomorrow afternoon we board a bus heading towards our next border crossing, Peru-Ecuador, the city of Tumbes. Due to arrive there around 9-11.00 am Tuesday morning.
We expect the scenery will be the same as the past day, desert, desert and more desert, so we don{t mind catching a night bus!
Keep you posted with our journey,
Love and hugs
Bronwyn and Aidan
