The Bus Ride from Hell... Well we are both getting settled in the country we will call home for the next few months as we have just arrived in Quito, Ecuador after our killer 50 hour bus trip (on several different buses mind you through 3 countries). Just to make the trip a little more challenging Bronwyn got food poisoning just before we got on one of our 20 hour bus journeys. So unfortunately Bronwyn spent the first 5-6 hours running up and down the stairs (we were on the top floor) to get the bathroom on time. I know you all don't need all the gory details but to make matters a little bit worse the toilet didn't flush. So after every time she went to the toilet she had to ask the conductor/stewardess for water so it could wash down. After around the 7th time she practically cracked the s***s at her and reminded her that the toilet is for urination only - What the hell is a girl to do!! On arriving in Ecuador, a further 12 hour bus ride from the border of Peru, we were met with at least 10 police checks. We both do not understand how any of the passengers could be in possession of any drugs considering we all got on the bus together at the onset of the journey however this did not stop the police checking every 50-100 km. I (Aidan) even got the search down my body, not the most pleasant experience at midnight!! Anyway what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Bronwyn is starting private Spanish lessons over the next few days whilst I explore the surrounds of Quito, probably a volcano or two before we both start volunteering on Tuesday (Yep we are both getting nervous!).
